The morning chill hasn’t quite lifted when the team arrives at 8:30am, but inside the centre, it’s already buzzing with life.
The team heads straight to the cattery, where Ferry - a devoted mum - waits with her kittens. They’re weighed, fed, and snuggled back into clean bedding. A curious bunny gets its breakfast too, while we juggles emails and adoption applications. There’s a call about an eight-year-old Bulldog who’s been fouling the house - it turns out, he’s never taken for a walk. He’ll be coming in tomorrow for a fresh start.
Across the yard, a volunteer is knee-deep in dog duties. Breakfast bowls clatter, tails wag, and the leaf blower hums as she clears the paths. Pebbles, a gentle soul, was diagnosed with a Grade 4 heart murmur during her vet check. Despite her struggles, she wagged her tail fiercely after her first vaccinations and microchip—a true fighter. Barry, shy and wary, gets his shots, while Enzo’s skin tag needs removal and testing. Each note is carefully logged, every detail matters.
Colleagues work tirelessly with the cats, weighing, feeding, and prepping adoption packs. There’s joy in seeing healthy updates—Savannah’s skin looks great!
It's now over to the isolation care area, feeding and cleaning, then moving on to chickens and hutches. We clear leaves behind the vet room and sweep the freezer shed. Later, it's time for afternoon dog walks.

By evening, the facility hums with a sense of purpose. Our vet has worked through a full list—spay checks, heart scans, and vaccinations. Adoption packs are ready, a kitten viewing is booked for Saturday, and every animal has been seen, fed, and cared for. It’s not glamorous work, but it’s filled with heart: a team united by compassion, making sure every creature gets the chance it deserves.
That’s our wonderful local RSPCA team.
